Privacy Policy

Like everywhere you shop online, BLOM collects your personal information. Think of it as our way of getting to know you better. It means your orders are processed lightning-quick and we can send offers tailored to you, for things that you’ll actually want (that Lucky Yellow headband, for example). And if there’s a problem with your order (unlikely, but it does happen), it also means we can deal with it super-speedily.

Since we have your details, it only seems fair for you to have ours. BLOM Ltd is a company incorporated in Hong Kong and our company number is 2264039. We are a data controller registered with the Information Commissioner. Basically, we make sure to tell all concerned about the information we have squirreled away. Honesty is the best policy, after all.

Still got a burning question? Feel free to contact us at: hello@blom.co.

HOW WE LEARN ABOUT YOU

What you order speaks volumes – a penchant for simple headbands or an addiction to fancy long tailed multi-coloured headwraps. This helps us learn what you like. Sometimes we use information from other companies that you have shopped with to tell us more. If you’ve also bought from us via other websites, such as from Amazon (who doesn’t love Prime!), we’ll work with that information too. We like to get the full picture, you see. That way, our marketing is right up your street.

WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW

Let’s start with the basics. Our customers are more than a name and address, but we need to know these so we can send those packages of style direct to your door, as well as verify your payment details and let you know about new offers.

We’ll also need your email address – yes, so we can send your order confirmation, but also specially tailored BLOM offers and other news. Don’t fancy being the first to know about our sale? You can unsubscribe here at any time, or just email hello@blom.co. We’ll start the process straight away, but it might take up to five days to be completed.

What else? We ask for the details of your payment card, when you place your order, and need to know you’re over 18. It’s only then that you can legally enter a contract or buy something with your own money. Congratulations.

Some information we ask for is optional – give us your phone number and we can call or text about your orders. This is handy when the courier can’t find your address, for example, or if there is a problem with your order. And we like to know your date of birth – spoiler alert, but it means we might wish you a Happy BLOM Birthday.

BASIS OF PROCESSING YOUR INFORMATION & HOW WE USE IT

Remember, we’re in this together. When you shop with us, you’re entering a contract and that’s one of the bases we use for processing your data. If that sounds heavy, think of it this way: for your order to end up where it belongs – on your happy head – we need some of your information. We use it to make sure things go smoothly and with our customary style. We also use your data for fraud prevention purposes, to verify you are really a customer shopping for our accessories, rather than someone up to no good.

We like to keep you in the loop at BLOM so, from time to time, we’ll send you catalogues, special offers and promotions by post and email. Under data protection law, it is considered a legitimate business interest for us to use our customers’ details for direct marketing, so it is our intention to do so. However, we understand that not everybody wants to receive marketing, so if you do not wish to receive any further email messages from us, (and we quite understand if you don’t, but remember that if you unsubscribe we will not be able to send you sale details before anyone else) please update your preferences here or email us at hello@blom.co

Thanks, but no thanks: if you do not wish to receive any further posted mailings from us, please update your preferences here.

If for any reason you cannot update your preferences, please contact us by clicking here and we will update them for you (we’re nice like that). Please ensure you include your full name and address as well as account number, if applicable.

As catalogues get printed in advance, it can take up to six weeks for you to unsubscribe; for emails it may take around five working days. But, trust us, we’re on the case.

Our website IT team cleverly encrypts your credit card information before it travels over the internet, ensuring your transactions with us are private and protected. In addition, we only accept orders from web browsers that allow communication through SSL technology (that’s Secure Socket Layer), meaning you won’t inadvertently place an order through a dodgy connection. Most web browsers support this security.

SHARING YOUR INFORMATION

There are four circumstances where we may share some of your data with others:

  • With agents (think credit card reference agencies, credit card clearing agencies and fraud prevention and detection agencies). We use these very reliable, very trustworthy companies to process the orders you place with us or help us in the services we provide to you. We only give them the information they need to get the job done. We also share your name, address, email address and transaction history with data selection analysts, data segmentation and ranking agencies, and email marketing agencies and contractors. It sounds very complicated but these organisations help us to analyse our customer base and to identify potential new customers, and to target our marketing in a way that is most relevant for you. In all instances, we provide them with only the information they need to perform their function.
  • In the unlikely event that our business assets are sold or purchased by another company, our data records will be sold too as part of our business.
  • We care what you think so we sometimes ask outside research companies to contact you directly for opinions on our products and services (again, we’ll only give them the information they need to get this done).

Some of our contracted processors, who provide marketing analysis for us have sub-processing activities based around the world, so your data may be passed out of Europe where strictly speaking it may be subject to less strict data protection laws. We will however seek to ensure that it is subject to appropriate data security at all times.

HOW LONG IS YOUR INFORMATION KEPT?

We don’t want to get all hot and heavy, but as long as you keep shopping with us we like to think we’re ‘in a relationship’. That means we keep a record of the story so far, from your vivid orange headband perfect for sunbathing to that go-to black cross headband you wear all the time at work. This record helps us answer any questions about your order history – or indulge you in a stroll down memory lane. We might also need to keep your information for more boring important legal or audit purposes. And we know when we’re not wanted. If you haven’t shopped with us for six years, we will come to the sad conclusion that we may have lost you, and delete your information from all our systems.

YOUR RIGHTS

You have a right to access any data we hold about you and we will deal with any subject access request within 30 days because we like to be helpful. Please contact hello@blom.co or write to the Data Protection Officer, BLOM Limited, Rm 2107-9, 21/F C C WU Building, 302 - 308 Hennessy Road, Wanchai, Hong Kong, marking your request “subject access request” and giving us your name, address, email address and account number (if applicable) so we can get hold of it in a jiffy.

You have the right to ask us to stop processing your data. Please contact us here to let us know if you want us to erase, stop or amend any part of our processing and as far as we are able to (when taking into account our own legal obligations) we will do so.

If you have any complaints, you can contact us (see details below) and we’ll do our utmost to get to the bottom of things.

You have the right of portability over your data (i.e. you can ask us to pass the information we hold on you to a third party in machine readable format). Let us know if you want us to do this by contacting us at hello@blom.co.

COOKIES POLICY

Cookies are small text files that websites send to your computer. A cookie can be thought of as an Internet user's identification card. They let the website know when the user has returned. This lets the site bring up information relevant to that user, for example your name, past orders etc.

Cookies make the interaction between users and websites faster and easier. Without cookies, it would be very difficult for a website to allow a visitor to fill up a shopping basket or to remember the user's preferences or registration details for a future visit. The BLOM website uses cookies to allow customers to move from one part of the web site to another and to add items to the shopping basket without having to login repeatedly.

Cookies are not computer programs, and can't read other information saved on your hard drive. They cannot be used to disseminate viruses, or get a user's email address etc. They only contain and transfer to the website as much information as the users themselves have disclosed to that website. It is possible to opt out of cookies via your browser’s cookie settings, but if you do this you will not be able to shop from the BLOM website as the functions of the website are dependent on cookies. Please note that cookies are computer specific, so if you log on to any site from a different computer, the cookie settings on that computer will apply.

For further information about managing and disabling cookies on your computer seewww.allaboutcookies.org/manage-cookies.

When you visit our sites, cookies are either served directly by us, or by our business partners. Here is a description of the different kind of cookies we use.

Essential cookies These cookies allow you to use the basic functionality of our website. For example, browsing our products, ordering and paying for items, checking your account information and viewing your order history.

Performance cookies They allow us to get to know how you use our website. They are used to analyse visitor information such as usage, visitor numbers and help us see how effective our advertising is and to understand what you like. We also use this information to help improve our website, make our marketing more relevant and improve the user experience.

Functionality cookies They allow us to provide additional functionalities to the website, and will retain some settings information. Whilst not essential for the functionality of our site, they do enable extra features that should improve your shopping experience.

Targeting cookies We also use cookies to track visitors' interest in our products. We may use this to understand what most appeals to our customers so we can make our offers as appropriate as possible. Browsing behaviour is also used to create relevant banner advertising with product recommendations that we believe best relate to the items you viewed on our website. These banners are then served across other websites that you may visit, typically news sites, video sites and blogs. This process is called behavioural advertising and although the adverts are individually tailored to each visitor, all cookie data is anonymised and stored temporarily. Additionally, all banners of this type feature an "i" icon that provides more information from each advertising network and instructions on how to opt out. We also use the browsing behaviour data to create personal product recommendations on our website, our marketing emails and in our printed catalogue.

DATA OVER THE INTERNET

We use third-party service providers (Facebook, AWIN, Google, Amazon) to serve ads on our behalf across the internet and sometimes on this site. They may collect anonymous information about your visits to our Web site, and your interaction with our products and services. They may also use information about your visits to this and other Web sites to target advertisements for goods and services. This anonymous information is collected through the use of a pixel tag, which is industry standard technology used by most major websites. No personally identifiable information is collected or used in this process. They do not know the name, phone number, address, email address, or any personally identifying information about the user. If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices about not having this anonymous information used by our third party service provider, please visit our third party service provider’s websites.

SECURITY AND DATA FAQS

WHY ON EARTH WOULD BLOM WANT MY EMAIL ADDRESS OR PHONE NUMBER?

It’s always good to be in touch. We ask for your details so we can drop you a line on the rare occasion there might be a problem with your order. Don’t worry, though. That only happens once in a while. In about one order in 50, we might get into a pickle with delivery. In that case, we’ll contact you to sort it out. We also like to keep you updated with what we have going on. That’s why we might email you special BLOM offers and other news. Think about it this way: if we have your email address, we can alert you to our online sale first. Who doesn’t love a bargain?

We are always careful with your information. But we also know what you enjoy. We’ll keep your phone number and email address to ourselves, unless you have objected.

HOW DO YOU KEEP MY INFORMATION SAFE?

We don’t use a lock and key for starters. But all BLOM online purchases are safe and secure thanks to sophisticated technology designed to protect everything you’re kind enough to share with us.

Our IT team cleverly encrypt your credit card information before it travels over the internet, ensuring your transactions with us are private and protected. In addition, we only accept orders from web browsers that allow communication through SSL technology (that’s Secure Socket Layer), meaning you won’t inadvertently place an order through a dodgy connection. Most web browsers support this security.

This is serious stuff, so your payment details stay encrypted until we process your order and, when we do that, it’s on computers that aren’t connected to the internet (yes, they do exist). This encryption makes it virtually impossible for anyone without permission to read the information you’ve given us. Think of it as a safe with a combination that no one is likely to work out.

YOU KNOW WHERE I LIVE, BUT WHAT ELSE DO YOU KNOW?

To help us provide the best possible service, we also keep records of:

  • Your penchant for bright colours, graphic prints and all things rainbow. We make a note of your purchases so we can send you offers tailored to you, for things that you’ll actually want. If there’s a problem with your order (unlikely, but it does happen), this also means we can deal with it super-fast.
  • Your email correspondence. We love hearing from you and keep a record of anything you send to us. If you’ve had an issue with any of our products or services, we use this correspondence to help get to the bottom of things.

HOW DO YOU USE MY PERSONAL DATA AS A FORCE FOR GOOD?

The information we collect via our website or through other correspondence makes shopping with BLOM an easier/happier/more stylish experience. We promise that your details will only be used for:

  • Dealing with the boring nitty-gritty of orders and accounts, which help the supply of our goods and services.
  • Planning and managing BLOM’s business activities – and what we do next. How can we continue to go beyond your expectations? By getting to know you better. We do this by analysing your shopping habits and preferences.
  • Research (we love an Excel document).
  • Giving YOU the information you need about the products and services we offer. It’s crucial, for example, to know if your next headband is going to fit just right.

We never pass on credit card details to anyone, because that would just be crazy. In fact, we can count on one hand the circumstances where we may share some of your data with others.

  • With agents (think credit card reference agencies, credit card clearing agencies and fraud prevention and detection agencies). We use these very reliable, very trustworthy companies to process the orders you place with us or help us in the services we provide to you. We couldn’t do what we do without them but, even so, we only give them the information they need to get the job done.
  • In the unlikely event that our business assets are sold or purchased by another company, our data records will be sold too as part of our business.
  • We care what you think so we sometimes ask outside research companies to contact you directly for opinions on our products and services (again, we’ll only give them the information they need to get this done).

WILL YOU EVER PASS ON MY DETAILS TO YOUR FRIENDS?

We will never pass on your personal details to a third party for marketing purposes – even if they ask nicely.

SINCE WHEN DOES DATA TRAVEL OVER THE INTERNET?

The internet is called the ‘world wide web’ for a reason and, despite not having a passport, your data can travel internationally to places inside and outside the European Union and United States of America. We like to be straight with you, so we want you to know that when you visit or shop with BLOM, you’re not objecting to us processing data in this way. We’ll be careful with it, we promise.

WHAT IF THERE’S ANYTHING ELSE I WANT TO KNOW?

We hope we’ve cleared up a few of the questions/concerns about your personal data and our privacy policy but, if you have any other questions, just email us at hello@blom.co. You can also check what information we have on you personally and correct any inaccuracies (oops) by writing to:

NO OFFENCE, BUT HOW DO I OPT OUT OF RECEIVING INFORMATION FROM YOU?

None taken. We like to keep our customers in the loop when it comes to style so we send you catalogues, special offers and promotions by post and email from time to time. If you don’t wish to receive any more emails (and we quite understand if you don’t), please contact us here. Just be aware that if you unsubscribe, we won’t be able to send you sale details before we send them to anyone else and you might miss out on some fantastic clothes.

If you don’t wish to receive anything else in the post from BLOM, please contact us here. Just include your full name and address, as well as an account number if applicable and we’ll take you off our database. So long, farewell and no hard feelings.

To make life easier for us (and you), please make sure you include your full name and address, as well as account number where applicable when you get in touch. We’ll start the opt-out process straight away but, as catalogues get printed in advance, it can take up to six weeks for you to unsubscribe; for emails it may take around five working days.

YOU’VE GOT THINGS COVERED AT YOUR END BUT IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO INCREASE SECURITY?

Most online transactions are quick, easy and trouble-free. We do everything we can to keep it that way by making your experience as safe and secure as possible. But there are some precautions you can take to up your security even more.

It’s simple, but effective: always close down your internet browser when you’ve finished shopping online, especially if you’re using a shared computer. Any temporary internet cookies (and personal information) will be permanently deleted from the sites you’ve visited.

Pretty standard but don’t reveal your password to anyone else.

Make your password fool proof. Don’t, for example, use your name, your partner’s name or the street you live on as this could all be easily obtained by a third party.

Be imaginative. Try not to use the same password again and again, across multiple sites. BLOM will NEVER ask for personal details over email. If you receive an email asking for them, it’s not from us. Please contact our Customer Service team immediately if this happens.

Please note that local charges (sales tax, customs duty) may occur, depending on your region and local customs duties. These charges are at the customers own expense.
